Youth Programs

Youth Mentoring Group

The Youth Mentoring Program is run by License to Freedom and mentors from the Majdal Center. This program connects refugee girls in high school and college with a mentor from similar backgrounds, supporting the girls in their academic, social and personal goals. The program consists of 1:1 meetings between mentors and mentees, as well as group activities and events that cater to needs and goals. This program creates the space to amplify the diversity of our experiences and make meaningful connections between mentor and mentee.

Elevate YOUth Program

License to Freedom is proud to sponsor with the state Elevate YOUth Program aimed at providing peer mentorship and support to keep refugee youth from youth substance disorder. Our refugee youth are particularly at risk for drug use as they typically suffer from PTSD, trauma associated with entering new cultures, loss, and lack of language resources. Our peer mentors are trained in responding with trauma-informed care and are also from the same cultures, offering compassionate care drawn from similar lived experiences. This program elevates youth voice and leadership.

Parc Program for Refugee and Immigrant Youth

Equality is only feasible with inclusivity, which is why License to Freedom is excited to be a participant in the Parc Program. This program seeks to discover necessary changes within the California State Park and National Park system to increase inclusivity for our youth. Refugee youth are invited to join our youth mentor in visiting California State Parks and advocate for adjustments that would allow for greater inclusivity and enjoyment—such as designated prayer locations. If your child is an avid outdoors person and would like to be a voice in creating a more equal and inclusive State and National Park system, please reach out to us!

Because nature belongs to everyone.
